Model: 1884 Trapdoor Rifle.

Caliber: .45-70 Govt (Original military loading was 500gr or 405gr lead bullet over 70gr black powder).  

Action: Breech-loading "Trapdoor" hinged block.  

Breechblock Marking: Clearly stamped "U.S. / MODEL / 1884".

Lockplate: Stamped with the Eagle/Shield motif and "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD".  

Rear Sight: Equipped with the correct Buffington rear sight, adjustable for windage and elevation up to 1,400 yards.  

Barrel: Standard 32 5/8" length with original bayonet lug/front sight stud.  

Condition Report:

Metal: Retains a smooth plum-brown patina with traces of original bluing in protected areas Shows some scattered light pitting

Wood: The walnut stock is solid with typical handling marks and dings for its age.

Bore: Bright with sharp rifling

Mechanics: Hammer holds firmly at half and full cock; breechblock opens and closes with a crisp "click.".
