Owners Fred and Viv Webb began the business in 1986 and initially traded from their home in Sawston under the name of Sawston Farm Feeds. The business started by supplying Pet Feeds to the general public and Grain Merchanting for farmers, operating on a delivery basis only. On the 1st April 1992 the business moved to Sawston Trade Park and the current shop was opened. In 1993, the Shooting and Fishing departments were bought by Sawston Farm Feeds from the Thornton family and added to the store, making a one-stop shop for the country dweller. As the retail trade grew, the grain merchanting reduced, and in 2000 the company name was changed to The Country Store. Following the closure of the Fishing Department in 2012, the Gun Shop expanded and is now nationally recognised. The Gun shop stocks a variety of shotguns, rifles, air rifles and pistols, alongside a wide range of associated ammunition and a collection of technical clothing and footwear from some of the best known brands in the shooting world. The Pet Feeds Shop stocks an ever expanding range of food, bedding, toys and treatments for pets and small holdings which, along with the excellent knowledge of our staff, will provide you with everything you need for your animals.
